Privacy Policy
Effective 20 October 2026
The short version: Tapeside Video doesn't collect your personal information. Your sign-ins, settings and history stay on your device. The app talks only to the Plex or Jellyfin server you connect it to, and to plex.tv if you sign in with Plex. There are no ads, no analytics, no tracking, and no Tapeside Video account.
This policy covers the Tapeside Video app on every platform it is offered on, and this website (tapesidevideo.com). "We" and "us" mean the developer of Tapeside Video.
What the app does
Tapeside Video is a player for your own media library. It shows the movies and shows on a Plex or Jellyfin server that you choose (usually one you run yourself) as a video-rental store you can walk around, and plays them from that server. We don't host, sell or supply any video.
Information we collect
None. We don't run any servers that the app sends information to, so we never receive your name, email address, viewing history, library contents, location, device identifiers or usage data.
Information stored on your device
To work, the app saves the following on your own device, in its private app-data storage:
- The address of your media server and the sign-in token it gives the app (for Plex, this comes from signing in with Plex; for Jellyfin, from an API key or from your username and password; the password itself is used once and never stored).
- Which libraries you picked, and the Plex Home or Jellyfin users you switch between.
- Your settings, such as theme, store size, graphics and sound.
- The date you first opened the app, so it knows when the 3-day free trial ends. This is never sent anywhere.
- What you're partway through watching and recently viewed titles.
- Copies of cover art from your server, so the store loads faster.
- A local log file that helps with troubleshooting. It is never sent anywhere; you only share it if you choose to send it to us.
This information never leaves your device except as described in the next section.
Who the app connects to
- Your media server. The app connects to the Plex or Jellyfin server you choose, to list your library, fetch artwork and stream video. Like any player, it tells your server what you're watching and how far you got, so your progress and "watched" status stay in sync with your other devices.
- plex.tv (only if you use Plex). When you sign in with Plex, the app uses Plex's sign-in page and plex.tv to get your sign-in, find your servers and switch between Plex Home users. Plex will see "Tapeside Video" as a signed-in device on your account, which you can remove at any time in your Plex account settings. Plex may also route a connection through its own relay service when your server can't be reached directly.
- Links you open. If you click a link in the app, it opens in your web browser.
Apart from asking the app store whether you own the unlock (see below), the app makes no other internet connections. It has no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or tracking code, and it doesn't use third-party fonts or content delivery networks.
Your use of Plex and Jellyfin is covered by their own privacy policies. Tapeside Video is an independent app and is not made by, affiliated with or endorsed by Plex, Inc. or the Jellyfin project.
App stores
When you download Tapeside Video from the Microsoft Store or Apple's App Store, Microsoft or Apple handles the download under its own privacy policy.
Tapeside Video is free to download and try for 3 days from the first time you open it. After the trial, a one-time in-app purchase unlocks the app to keep using it. That purchase happens entirely in the store's own payment window: Microsoft or Apple handles your payment details, and we never see them. The app only asks the store whether the unlock has been bought on your account, and the store answers yes or no.
The stores may share anonymous, combined statistics with us, such as download and sales counts and crash totals, depending on your device's settings. We can't identify you from those statistics.
This website
tapesidevideo.com uses no cookies, analytics or trackers. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) handles the traffic to the site and may keep standard technical logs, such as IP addresses, for security and to keep the site running, under its own privacy policy.
Your choices
- Sign out of your server in the app's Settings at any time.
- Delete everything by uninstalling the app. App-store versions remove their storage when uninstalled; on a computer you can also delete the "Tapeside Video" folder in your user's app-data folder.
- Revoke Plex access by removing "Tapeside Video" from the authorized devices in your Plex account.
Because we hold no information about you, there is nothing for us to export or delete on our side. If you email us, we use your message only to reply, and delete it on request.
Children
The app doesn't collect information from anyone, including children. What can be watched depends on the media server and the user accounts and restrictions its owner sets up.
Security
On desktop computers the app runs a small player service that only accepts connections from the same computer. Your sign-in tokens are kept in the app's private storage and are only sent to the server they belong to.
Changes to this policy
If the way the app handles information changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change reaches the app.
